This thought comes from a Ted talk that Derek Siver gave on a simple idea that the opposite is also true. In his talk he mentions that there are certain doctors in China who only get paid when you are well. If you are healthy, you pay them your monthly fees. If you are sick, you pay nothing and the doctor works to make you well again (at which point you are a paying member again).
What if we applied this to software? If it works and actively solves your particular problem then you pay your monthly fee. If it isn’t working, you pay nothing. I wish my AT&T mobile phone service functioned on this principle - it might speed up addressing the number of dropped calls and delayed voice mails I experience.
